New Mapping Technology Uses Visual System Status Management to Ensure Faster Response Time for EMS Organizations

"EMS organizations can achieve faster response times through awareness of historical 'hot spots' in their geographic coverage area and the ability to view in real time their fleet’s coverage of those areas. Then they can use the technology’s tools to dynamically respond to changes," said Vane Clayton, President of ZOLL Data Systems.
The new mapping capability, which uses Visual System Status Management (SSM), can help streamline operations and improve overall service. It can also help with cost reductions, as optimal vehicle placement often results in adequate geographical coverage while using fewer vehicles and staff.
BCS’ MARVLIS CADGIS was developed around two Esri industry-standard software packages, MapObjects® and NetEngine™. It connects field vehicles to a dispatch center's CAD system by utilizing wireless communications between an in-vehicle mobile data terminal and an interface connected to the CAD network. It provides fully attributed maps, complete with impedance data (e.g., historical drive times), for accurate selection and routing of response vehicles at all times, with information updated as often as every three seconds.

This feature enables dispatchers to continually monitor: all available response vehicles as they move about their jurisdictions, with constantly changing views of service areas; the locations vehicles can reach within a certain time window; and the fastest route for response. Once an incident location is identified, the software helps dispatchers visually determine the closest vehicle for assignment, resulting in immediate dispatch to the scene.
